The Title
This comes from a reading from EDN610, I think, about Nietzsche. There are a number of philosophy articles in the reading. They are a bit funny because at the time I read them I think, “What are they talking about?” “What is this really?” But after some time I come to realize more about it. Anyway, this is the reference and my ideas about the article.
Delueze, G. (1977). Nomad thought. In D. Allison (Ed.), The new Nietzsche: Contemporary styles of interpretation (pp. 142-149). Cambridge, MA: MIT Press.
This chapter puts Freud, Marx and Nietzsche at the beginning of ‘modern culture.’ Nietzsche is at the front of count-culture. Where Freud and Marx tried to recodify their realms, Nietzsche tried to decodify philosophy. The nomadic thought of the title refers to an aphorism encapsulated by Nietzsche, were despotic bureaucracies in the centre form an interrelationship with nomadic war machines on the peripheral. The writer symbolizes Nietzsche as a nomadic philosopher. The nomads are not going anywhere, according to Delueze, but they just refuse to be codified by settled people. Nietzsche constructs his philosophy in the same way.
The reason I took the nomad out of this article and put it in the title of this wiki is that like Nietzsche, I think it is important to decodify the existing body of thought surrounding a subject, and for our purposes this is education, in an attempt to get to the base and then build from there. If anyone has any questions as to why we might need to get to the base, you should read,
Nakata, M. (2001). Another window on reality: A Torres Strait Islander’s story of a search for a “better education.” In B. Osborne (Ed.) Teaching, diversity and democracy. (pp. 331-353). Altona, Vic., Aust.: Common Ground.
And I will talk about that soon.
