Last time, I talked about Nietzsche’s “Nomad Thought” and how this was a good analogy for the change that is required in education. Change is required. I will need to investigate many areas to understand how this change can be affected. I have established this site to record the results of my investigation. It is not the outcome of my investigation. It may seem chaotic at times, and feedback is always welcome.
This idea of change is important. The education system has been established to cater for the dominant majority. As our society becomes more diversified, and we increase our acceptance of diversity, we need to change the fundamentals of our education system, rather than tinker with the secondary aspects. Governments in Australia place a great emphasis on multiculturalism and racial discrimination, but the notion that ‘others’ must conform to the dominant society still exists. If the education system does not change, it runs the risk of becoming irrelevant. This is true for people whose culture is not the dominant culture. It is also true for Generation Z children, who access information, analyse that information and present their understand of that information in ways radically different to the way things are taught in schools now. It is also true for our society that, as Pink suggests, is moving from left-brained, analytical focus, to a right-brained creative focus. I will investigate these three areas.
