Design - The first sense
It was while contemplating the first of six senses in Pink's book that I had a realization about differences between Eastern and Western thinking not described by Nisbett. This also coincided with a disagreement occurring in my neigbourhood. My wife, Kelly, Taiwanese, always complains that my sense of taste is underdeveloped. I'm often hungry and do not contemplate the differences in taste between two different dishes of delicious food. I would argue that generally, the Taiwanese and maybe East Asians have a more developed palate when it comes to food. But their threshold for uglyness is very high. I would guess that this is in part due to the Chinese notion of practicality, at the expense of aesthetic beauty.
